In 2015, 2,545  Chicago police officers were victims of violent assaults and batteries while carrying out their duties to keep our businesses and neighborhoods safe.   Tragically, as history has shown these assaults sometime lead to death or catastrophic injuries. Currently the names of 574 officers who have given their lives are inscribed on the wall of Gold Star Memorial Park and the foundation is providing financial assistance to the families of slain or catastrophically injured officers.


We have three primary functions that we fund:

Since August of 2007, more than $7.4 million in direct financial assistance has been provided by the CPMF. Examples of this assistance provided throughout 2015 included:


  • To date, the total provided by the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation to the City of Chicago under the Get Behind the Vest program is $2,290,102.00 which provided for the purchase and distribution of 6,113 vests to Chicago Police Officers..
  • In addition to ongoing monthly assistance, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation paid tuition for the 2015-16 School Year in the amount of $171,384.34 for children of officers who were killed or catastrophically injured in the line of duty from the Narcotics and Organized Crime Units and the 004th, 007th, 010th, 013th, 020th, 022nd, 023rd and 024th Districts.
  • In addition to ongoing monthly assistance, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation provided $72,500.00 in $2,500 memorial grants to 29 children of officers who were catastrophically injured or killed in the line of duty from the 004th, 007th, 010th, 011th, 013th, 015th/Tact., 020th, 022nd, 023rd and 024th Districts and the Special Operations Unit, Narcotics Unit, Forensic Services Unit and Organized Crime Division and one $1,250 memorial grant to the child of an officer from the 008th District who was catastrophically injured in the line of duty.
